When Mrs. Lakshmi first felt the lump, she hesitated. Fear of the "C-word" kept her silent for weeks. But when she finally visited Dr. Aswin's clinic, she realized that cancer wasn't an immediate death sentence—it was a diagnosis that required a plan.
"The hardest part was the waiting," she recalls. "Waiting for reports, waiting for surgery, waiting to see if it worked. But Dr. Aswin's team was there at every step, explaining not just the 'what' but the 'why' of every procedure."
Her treatment involved surgery followed by radiation therapy. While the physical toll was significant, she emphasizes the mental battle. "I had to decide that I wasn't just a patient; I was a person who happened to be sick. I kept gardening, I kept cooking when I could. I held onto my normalcy."
"Cancer took a year of my life, but it gave me back a lifetime of gratitude. I view every sunrise differently now."
Lakshmi offers three pieces of advice for anyone just starting their journey:
